“WHAT ARE THE BEST PRACTICES FOR KEEPING YOUR ADULY TOYS CLEAN AND HYGIENIC?”

Presented by Lady Layla

It is important to care for your sex toy from the first day and in the days, weeks and years following. Treat it as if it were your best friend because that is exactly what it is. If you are single it could be the most important friend that you will ever have. If you are in a relationship it is the third partner in a threesome. Your adult toy should be treasured.

RULES

Select the best Material Type when buying.

Always clean a sex toy before and after use.

Clean correctly.

Protect your buddy when in use.

Protect your buddy when not being used.

Sharing – Never Share.

A sex toy could be made of any material imaginable but most should be avoided. With the exception of glass or metal dildos any part to be inserted into a vagina should be made of 100% silicone. Not only does this material contain no harmful products but it is non-porous. This means that any harmful items will not be absorbed.

To make cleaning easier the toy should also be waterproof.

Care begins at the purchase stage. Before a brand new sex toy is used it should be cleaned. This is not to suggest that it will have had previous use as it almost certainly will not. However, it is better to err on the side of caution. It is more a matter of storage before sale. Has it been open to the elements? Could it be dusty etc? It is best to take no chances and to give it a good initial clean.

Every time your friend is to be used it is best to give it a good clean beforehand. After use it should be cleaned once again. Cleanliness is next to Godliness or so they say. It is certainly your barrier against problems.

If the sex toy uses batteries it is advisable to remove them during cleaning. If the sex toy can be charged then remove it from the charging point

Assuming that the material is silicone and the sextoy is waterproof then a good wash in warm soapy water is the ideal way to keep things clean. In general nothing more complicated than that is needed. It is a good idea if now and again a specialised sex toy cleaner is used. This will keep your friend in an “As New” condition.

Obviously, you don’t want to damage your sextoy in any way when using it. Care must be taken when a lubricant is used.

SILICONE-BASED LUBRICANTS should never be used with sex toys as The silicone in these toys is damaged by them and the surfaces become pitted and then harbour bacteria.

OIL-BASED LUBRICANTS are not ideal as they are difficult to wash off. They are also associated with vaginal infections and stain the sheets.

WATER-BASED LUBRICANTS have the advantage that they have no effect on silicone sex toys. As well as this they do not stain the sheets and wash off easily.

So if a lubricant is to be used with a sex toy it should be a Water based one.

When not being used your sex toy should be kept safe and away from any dust or chemicals. If possible it should be contained within a lint-free cloth bag. As a last resort, if nothing suitable is available, a sock will do.

If the sex toy uses batteries these should be removed prior to storage.

Never share your sex toy with another person as infections can easily passed on in this situation. This could occur during same-sex activity or in a threesome situation. Having said that – Unless all participants are certified as infection-free free sex should not be occurring anyway.

This warning has to do with lending your sex toy to someone else. The risk of cross-infection is too great so NEVER do it.

DESPITE MY WARNINGS you may decide to own a sex toy where other materials than silicone are used.

In such cases further reading would be wise.
